Making your own Yoto cards
A Make Your Own card is a blank Yoto card that you fill yourself. The card does not hold the audio — it holds a link to a playlist in your Yoto account, which is why you can change what is on it afterwards and why losing one costs you a card and not the content.
- Create a playlist in the Yoto app and add your audio to it.
- Give each track an icon, so the player's screen shows something useful. Our icon library is free, and there are three ways to make your own.
- Hold a blank Make Your Own card to the player and link it to the playlist.
- Label the card so you can tell it from the other nine blank white ones. Printable labels are coming.
The longer version, including storage limits and what happens offline, is in how Make Your Own cards actually work.
Quick answers
- What is a Make Your Own Yoto card?
- A blank Yoto card you fill with your own audio. It holds no audio itself — it carries a link to a playlist in your Yoto account, so the player fetches the tracks over Wi-Fi and caches them.
- How do I put a playlist on a Yoto card?
- In the Yoto app, create a playlist, add your audio to it, then hold a blank Make Your Own card to the player and link it. The card plays that playlist from then on.
- What can I put on a Make Your Own card?
- Anything you have the audio for: songs you own, an audiobook split into chapters, a grandparent reading a story, the school concert, a podcast episode. Length is not the constraint — a full audiobook fits.
- Can I change what is on a Yoto card later?
- Yes. The card points at a playlist, so editing the playlist changes the card. Lose the card and the playlist is still in your account — link a new blank one and you are back.
- Do Make Your Own cards need their own icons?
- Not strictly, but every track shows an icon on the player's screen, and a blank one shows nothing useful. Our icon library is free and sized for the 16×16 screen.
